Guatemala was fabulous!

My trip to Guatemala was exciting and enriching.  I taught lessons on onomatopoeia and movement patterns to children at four different schools in the Guatemalan Highlands.  I also learned several folk dances, listened to beautiful merimba music, and hiked an active volcano.  The people I met were very excited to learn creative, ballet and modern dance, and generously shared their dances with me.  I look forward to returning in May of 2015 to develop the arts integration program.

Upcoming residency at Desert Hills High School

I am excited to announce that my company, Shifting Velocity Dance Company, will be in residency on June 18 & 19 at Desert Hills High School in St. George, UT.  We are looking forward to exploring dance technique and composition with these gifted dancers.

Exciting News!

I am happy to announce that I will be presenting at the 2014 NDEO Annual Conference in Chicago.  My presentation, Arts*Lab:  Collaboration, Integration, Community and the Common Core, will explore my collaboration with Michael Bahr and Alisa Petersen in creating a multi-disciplinary community arts workshop here in Cedar City.  If you are coming to the conference, I will be delighted to have you in my session!

In other news, my dance company, Shifting Velocity Dance, has received funding from the Cedar City Arts Council to create a new work.  The dance will premiere in the St. George Contemporary Dance Concert on June 13 & 14 at the Cox Performing Arts Center in St. George, UT.  For more information, go to http://www.saintgeorgedance.com/community-concert/

I have some exciting upcoming events!  Please join Shifting Velocity Dance Company on June 13 & 14 at the Cox Auditorium in St. George, UT as we perform a new work titled, "Of Space."  Of space is a study of the space between and magnetic attraction of atomic elements.  Focusing on movement inspired by Bartenieff Fundamentals, dancers constantly change groupings, jumping, falling and being lifted into new formations, much like atoms giving and taking electrons.  The result is a highly energetic dance with a lot of technically impressive movement ideas.  Come on out!  For more information: saintgeorgedance.com.

And keep an eye out for SVDC's upcoming fall performance with an ensemble from the Orchestra of Southern Utah.  We will be dancing to several Irish musical selections.  You will love it!

Happy New Year!

This year promises to be an exciting one!  I am already off and running, with the upcoming Cedar City premiere of my dance company, Shifting Velocity Dance.  Join us on February 14 & 15 at 7:30 pm in SUU's Multipurpose Center, Studio 116 for an evening of engaging and entertaining dance!

Other exciting developments include my article on best practices in teaching 9-12 dance, to be published in the nest Journal of Dance Education.  I will be organizing Arts*Lab workshops on March 1 and April 26, and a middle school Arts*Lab is in the planning stages.  I will travel to Salt Lake City in February to present my work in the Rocky Mountain Choreography festival, and in July I will present at Bill Evan's international conference.
